Orbit Gum
One of my favorite commercials ever to be aired on direct tv specials Phoenix was one that promoted the new Orbit Raspberry Mint gum. The small plot that was arranged was about a man cheating on his girlfriend or wife. While the man and his mistress are cuddling atop an office desk at work, the man’s wife/girlfriend storms in with a box of random items in her hands and throws something at the two. The wife/girlfriend begins by angrily saying, “You son of a biscuit eating bulldog.” The man replies by saying something along the lines of, “What the French, toast?” The two begin arguing, and the wife begins referring to the mistress as a cootie queen. The mistress replies with the line that ended up making the commercial famous. “Who are you callin’ a cootie queen, you lint licker?!”
The commercial is quite hilarious, and after the mistress says this to the wife, the animosity sort of explodes. The woman ends up pouring the box that she’s holding onto the floor and then begins physically charging the two. While the fight begins to take place, Orbit’s spokeswoman chimes in with the line, “Fabulous! New Orbit Raspberry Mint cleans another dirty mouth!” What makes the ending of the commercial funny as well is that fact that the three are seen fighting behind the spokeswoman while she is still talking about the product. It’s probably one of the funniest commercials I’ve ever seen, and I hope they never take it off the air!
